Nitrogen oxides, or NOx, are produced primarily during high-temperature combustion in engines.
Modern diesel vehicles use different systems to control their emissions.
SCR combined with AdBlue is one of these technologies.
The goal is not to directly modify diesel combustion, but to treat the gases after they exit the engine.
AdBlue then participates in a set of chemical reactions in the SCR system, allowing a large portion of NOx to be reduced.
This distinction is important.
AdBlue does not mean that a vehicle produces no emissions. In particular, it does not directly eliminate the CO₂ generated by fuel combustion.
It should therefore be considered as a solution designed to treat a particular category of pollutants.
It is precisely for this reason that it is now fitted to many diesel vehicles.
